Layering a Groove

By Nate Brown

This drum lesson begins with a foundational groove and gradually adds layers to fill out the groove. Use this technique to make your playing sound fuller.

The second bar of notation adds the open hi-hat layer. In the third bar, ghost strokes and additional snare strokes are introduced. Finally, the fourth bar incorporates the high tom. When playing the final bar, play all of the stems up notes with your right stick (or left stick if you use a left-handed setup).
