About "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond
The song is fun, familiar, and easy to sing, which has made it one of the most popular sing-along songs of all time. It’s a good one for drummers young and old to know. “Sweet Caroline” has become an institution at Boston Red Sox games and has featured in numerous movies. It was recorded with Memphis session musicians, including the solid, dependable drummer, Gene Chrisman. The song’s verses are sparse with an interesting use of toms, bass drum, and hi-hats on beats 2 and 4. As the pre-chorus hits, a rim click and more regular bass drum hits are introduced before the classic triplet snare fill leads into the chorus.
The eighth notes in this notation should be interpreted as “swung 8ths” (or broken triplets). We’ve opted to use this common technique of writing swing grooves in order to make the sheet music clean and easy to read. Get the note-for-note sheet music for Sweet Caroline, and learn to play one of the all-time party favorites.
