Listen To "The Crunge" by Led Zeppelin
Description
Paying homage to James Brown’s unique style of funk, Led Zeppelin borrowed the guitar riff from Brown’s 1970 hit, “Sex Machine.” To poke some friendly fun, Robert Plant uses Brown’s style of calling out instructions to the band near the end of the song: “Ahh, excuse me … Will you excuse me? I’m just trying to find the bridge. Has nobody seen the bridge? Where is that confounded bridge?”
The Crunge has no bridge. In fact, it seems like The Crunge was just a song for the guys to have fun with. Bonham’s 9/8, odd-time beat is said to be undanceable. Maybe it wasn’t meant for radio play, but Bonham’s nasty beat has stood the test of time, even fascinating drummers to this day. It’s a classic.
